Ojibway Teacher

Aaniin Boozhoo, Greetings. My name is Lee Benson Nanigishkung, my spirit name is Kikekoons (young hawk.) I am from an Anishnaabe Ojibway community Rama (Mnjikaning) FN, Caribou Clan Atikoons Dodem, with relations on my mothers side from Wikwemikong Unceded Reserve on Manitoulin Island Ontario. I have obtained two diplomas from Georgian College Barrie Campus in Anishnaabemowin Language and the Indigenous Community and Social Development Program. With additional studies at Laurentian University Bachelors of Arts, History Program and the Laurentian University Archeology Field School. My work experience includes 2018 Annual Rama Competition Powwow Coordinator, and Teachers Assistant to the Dean of Studies LU archeology program. While pursuing my education at LU, I have worked with the Simcoe County District School Board, teaching cultural arts such as beadwork and performing cultural dance presentations for both the elementary and secondary school levels. I do enjoy travelling, and powwow dancing across Turtle Island. I also create my own regalias and do workshops on how to do beadwork techniques, and featherwork i.e. bustles, fans, headwear. In addition to my cultural work I have also been hired as head staff at various powwows in Ontario as Head male dancer, Arena Director and Emcee. I am very happy to be here and advancing in language skills for the language programs. Miigwech, Thank you.
